I. Introduction and General Conversation (about 3 - 4 minutes)

II. Presentation (about 2-3 minutes)

Well, in this part of the test, you are going to talk for about 2 minutes on the topic you are going to choose right now. For each topic, you will read five phrases as your tips. Read these tips and choose at lease two and talk about them for about 2 minutes. Here are the topics. Please choose one.

(Show the examinee 8 numbered cards at random order, and all face down so that the information on them will not be seen and then ask the candidate to choose one of them.)

• Do you know what a bullet train is? How fast can it go?

• What are some good sightseeing places in Beijing you can recommend to your foreign friends?

• If a foreign friend decides to drive from Beijing to Shenzhen, what will you advise him/her?

• Do you like to visit big cities or small towns when you travel? Why/why not?

• Tell me your reason why you prefer travel by train/air?

2. Transport

• Will the traffic become a big problem in Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games?

• Aside from bus, what might be a solution for the problem of busy transport in Beijing?

• Is it dangerous to ride a bike in the busy traffic in the city of Beijing?

• Will the subway system in Beijing good enough for big crowd of people during the Olympic Games?

• What may happen when your taxi is held up by the traffic?

3. Study

• What is the biggest difficulty for western people to learn Chinese? What do you suggest to overcome such difficulty?

• Do you like your majors in school? Do you find some training courses help you with your work?

• How do you use online information for your study?

• In your opinion, is the state government putting enough money into education?

• What are some problems with the education of this country?

4. Eating in a restaurant

• What Beijing snack do you like best? How is it different from the famed snack in your hometown?

• Where do you usually find quiet restaurant? Does quiet dining hall help your appetite?

5. Shopping

• Tell some famous shopping areas in downtown Beijing. Where are they? How often do you go shopping there?

• Food at festivals are delicious. Do you eat a lot during festivals? What food do people enjoy at Lantern Festival?

• Why do Chinese people play a lot of firework during festivals?

• How do you advise people to take care while playing firework?

• Is your life very busy? What do you do to have a change?
